I don’t know if I’ve mentioned before, but these page-to-screen posts are my favorite to write.  I get to revisit stories I’ve enjoyed in a different format, and there’s that rollercoaster of emotion that every reader gets watching an adaptation, reader to squee at the correct interpretations and groan at the incorrect ones.  You guys know what I’m talking about, right? Like many classics, The Jungle Book has been adapted multiple times.  While I may go back and review other versions in the future, I wanted to focus Disney’s 1967 animated adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s classic tale of the man cub […]

January is the month that lasts forever. Here in the northern hemisphere, January is the first full month of really, really cold.  Well, at least it is in Massachusetts.  I’m looking forward to the thaw – I’m tired of shivering and numb fingers.  Grateful to have a home and a place with heat, so I try to focus on life’s small blessings instead of the single digit temperatures. I am not a winter person, I swear. But there’s been a lot of things going on this month, so that can also be exciting! The Monthly Haul Um. So.  I tripped […]

The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling

The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling

I had absolutely no expectations for this book.  I knew it was a classic, and I believe classics are worth reading. I also knew (and am well familiar with) the Disney movie adaptations of the book.  Beyond that, I had no idea what I would find here. And you know what? The Jungle Book is actually quite charming! For those who have been following this blog for a while, you may have seen the below image on some of my book reviews: Since 2017, I’ve been struggling to hold myself accountable and make sure I am reading the books that are physically on my shelf.  In an adorable, half-hearted attempt to hold myself accountable, I created The Great Bookcase Crusade, which was my noble attempt to read the books I own and gut out the ones that I don’t love anymore. This was a good idea, don’t get me wrong.  It has helped me focus a bit more on […]

The June Wrap Up: With Movies, MasterClass, & SO MANY BOOKS

The June Wrap Up: With Movies, MasterClass, & SO MANY BOOKS

Happy July everyone! This month reminds me of picnics and spending summers at the lake by my family.  We didn’t have a lake house or anything, but there was a really nice beach in bicycling distance and there were some summers when we were there every day. Ah, life was so much simpler when I was twelve. Intense haul this month, mostly due to BookCon on June 1st, and a whole lot of ARCs?  Seriously, y’all are going to be drowning in book reviews in September because most of these books are published in September/October.  I’m both sorry for the […]
