My loves, when you read this I should be standing in line waiting to get into Disneyland. I imagine it will be warm and sunny and I’ll be eagerly checking and double-checking everything because I don’t know the layout of the park. I’ll be with my spouse and a friend and 100% ready to prove to her that fun at Disney Parks is contagious (or at least it is when you go with me!). Where I am while I’m writing this isn’t too bad either. It’s a beautiful day outside – sunny, but not too hot and there’s a light, […]

So July… happened! It ended up being an interesting month for us here, some rollercoaster days, but generally better than June. The one thing I don’t love? The heat. I’m sure y’all have read that 2022 is on-pace to be the hottest summer on record and I am not a fan. There are reasons why I live way up here in New England with all its seasons and 91-degrees at 6am is not one of those reasons. Things I am grateful for – the shade, fans, air conditioning (which I didn’t have most my life so I am still in […]

Humans are awful sometimes. A couple weeks ago, MIT Technology Review posted an article about an incident in Texas where an extremist group is teaching parents how to efficiently cyber stalk, bully, and even attack teachers who talk about sexuality in schools. If you’ve been watching the news, you’ve heard the accusations – teachers are being accused “grooming” children by providing LGBTQIAP+ books. The accusation is deplorable. It’s horrible. I can’t express how mortified I am. It’s not new, either. This is in the footsteps of the “Don’t Say Gay” bill in Florida, and the rhetoric continues through many states. […]

The Month When Everything Went to H*ll – June 2022 Wrap Up

Okay. The title of this post is a bit dramatic. How many times over the last several years – over the course of our individual lives, even – have we felt like the world has gone to hell? June 2022 has been rough, but a different kind of rough than June 2020. June 2020 was worse, I think. They are, at least, different. So June 2022. Ukraine was carries on. Supreme Court in the United States overturns Roe vs. Wade, a landmark case in which women were given the right to an abortion and a case that set the precendent […]

No May Flowers for Me – My May 2022 Wrap Up

Good morning everyone! You may have noticed that my posting has slowed down this month. Not just the once-a-week content posts, but also a startling lack of reviews. Usually, The Literary Phoenix is rife with reviews! A few things have happened behind the scenes for me that have led to some content choices. A lot of them are personally driven. I’m trying to balance my time and energy and I really never want to come to a place where I want to leave this space. Blogging has been too important to me for too long. In many ways, it feels […]
