December Chaos and Change and Delight – The December Wrap Up

December Chaos and Change and Delight – The December Wrap Up

Good morning and happy Monday!  I deeply hope that everyone celebrating their winter holidays over the last week or so have had a magnificent time of it, whether that’s Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, or what have you.  And if you haven’t been celebrating anything, well then, I just hope you’ve had a magnificent week! As I mentioned last month, this wrap up is going to be short and sweet without major highlights, as December has been absolutely bonkers. I’ll tell you all about it in the “Real Life” section below.  The end of the year is always busy, though, […]

Midnight Thief by Livia Blackburne

Midnight Thief by Livia Blackburne

This is my second read through of Midnight Thief and being perfectly honest, I still enjoyed it.  It isn’t perfect, though, so lets start with one of the things I didn’t like. For one, there’s a very clear love triangle forming.  Kyra grew up with Flick, who helped get her out of the gutter and develop her trade.  But then there’s Tristam, the sweet, good-hearted young knight from a noble family.  Kyra doesn’t spend a lot of time harping over, “Oh my, fellas, whoever shall I kiss?” but the tension between the boys is definitely there.  I imagine this will […]

In Which I Do Not Read Books: Off-the-Grid Readathon V Review

In Which I Do Not Read Books: Off-the-Grid Readathon V Review

Hey guys! Last weekend, I participated in the fifth Off-The-Grid Readathon!  If y’all’ve been around the block a while, you know that I’ve been participating in this one every time it comes up, usually with a lot of success (back in January, I got through six books!).  For me, this is a super fun one because there’s no goals and no requirements – really, the point of it is just to get off social media for a minute and read. And I am the worst when it comes to picking up my phone in the middle of a chapter, because I’m bored […]

Why Book Clubs Aren’t Really My Thing

Why Book Clubs Aren’t Really My Thing

I am such a solitary reader. I feel like that’s a fair thing to be?  After all, unless you’re reading aloud in a circle or recording and audiobook or something equally fantastic, it’s so much lovelier to dig into a novel in a quiet corner so you can really immerse yourself.  And you know what else I really love?  Picking my own books. For about a year, I agreed to join a friend’s book club at work.  It was a small group that eventually dwindled out.  Our biggest problem?  We had one girl who liked romance, one who liked NYT […]

So Many Classics! #MailboxMonday

So Many Classics! #MailboxMonday

Mailbox Mondays are hosted by the ladies over on the Mailbox Monday blog.  What finds have you added to your collection this week? GUYS GUYS GUYS. I am so excited because it’s been an ETERNITY since I bought books for myself. Like, real books.  Audible gives me two audiobooks a month, but those cannot grace my glorious bookshelves! AH SO EXCITED. But seriously, the reason I never buy books anymore is, frankly, I AM OUT OF ROOM.  It’s tragic.  I have 2.5 bookcases now in our small apartment, and the third is empty in the office that was supposed to be a […]
