10 Books Outside of my Comfort Zone (That I Really Liked!) – #TopTenTuesday

10 Books Outside of my Comfort Zone (That I Really Liked!) – #TopTenTuesday

I have a pretty specific set of books I like to read: YA Fantasy.  Sometimes I will shift from one of these – Adult Fantasy! YA Contemporary!  But my favorite is still YA Fantasy.  However, shifting far enough out of this genre to get into something really different?  So rare.  A book really need to catch my attention.  In fact? Half the time, even if it does, I’ll add it to my TBR and when it gets to the front of the line, I’ll say “eh no”. But I keep adding these books because – you never know!  Sometimes, I really, really like […]

Fall Book Tag

Fall Book Tag

A little more than a year ago, Kyera tagged me in The Fall Book Tag.  At the time, my blogging schedule was so so full, I never found a place to put it without double-posting, but I saved it, because this is a lovely tag and I really wanted to make sure I did it! I love autumn.  I live the whole year for Octobers.  I’m a New Englander – autumn means jack-o-lanterns and sunset-colored treetops and apple cinnamon pie.  Autumn has the best sights, smells, and weather where I live.  This tag was practically made for me. <3 The rules: Please link back to […]

June Wrap Up

June is already gone, and what an unexpected month it has been.  For me, June has been a month that has required patience – at work and at home, and with my reading.  As I write this, though, my house is peacefully quiet and it smells like barbecue pulled pork, so it important to find all the little things are cling to them lovingly. All in all, June has been a good month.  It went by so fast, but doesn’t it seem like they all do, by the time we hit the wrap up?   Y’all know how I keep […]

The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

The Poet X dropped into my life at just the point when I needed a beautiful lyrical novel.  It is written in prose, which is not the type of novel that normally draws me in.  This book?  This is beautiful.  I really like Elizabeth Acevedo’s voice.  Her poetry is simple and emotive.  Best of all?  It doesn’t rhyme. I have this thing about rhyming poetry.  Mostly?  I just like it better when it doesn’t rhyme.  Personal preference. This is more than a book of poetry.  It’s the story of a young Latino girl, first generation American, whose family comes from the […]

May Wrap Up

May Wrap Up

Sometime in the midst of May, summer arrived! When I left to go to Europe, there was a snowstorm on our tail, following us from New Hampshire all the way up to Manhattan. When I came back, it was 80-degrees outside!  That, in a brief description, is New England weather.  I love it and I hate it, but overall I’m really glad to see the sunshine. Mentally and emotionally, May is a difficult month for me.  I’ll talk about that a little more later, but lets start, as always, with the books!             The breakdown: ARCs/Freebies from Publishers: The Story Girl, LIFEL1K3, […]
