My 10 Favorite New Authors of 2018 (& 2018 Debut Author Challenge Review!)

My 10 Favorite New Authors of 2018 (& 2018 Debut Author Challenge Review!)

Last year, I participated in That Artsy Reader Girl’s 2018 Debut Authors Challenge.  This is a challenge Jana has been running for a few years now, though you probably know her better from Top Ten Tuesday!  The Debut Author Challenge is intended to encourage readers to reach out and support new and upcoming authors.  I’ve got to be honest, without this challenge, I most likely would have missed out of some of my favorite books of 2018. As a twist on today’s Top Ten Tuesday, I wanted to talk a little about my Top Ten New Authors from 2018 that […]

2018: My Year In Books

2018: My Year In Books

Annual round up time!  I like this time of year because it’s like this amazing gallery of all the different worlds I’ve visited and the people I’ve meant.  Okay, so granted, all these people and places are fictional, but books are still the sort of thing that make me happy, so taking a brief revisit is always fun. As I predicted last year, 2018 was so much better than 2017 in regards to my personal life, travel, reading, everything!  I’m so grateful for this upturn, and I’m sure 2019 will bring whole new slew of joy and surprises.  I started my […]

20 Questions Book Tag

20 Questions Book Tag

Back in June, the lovely Iris tagged me to participate in the 20 Questions Book Tag!  Have y’all even played 20 questions?  Most frustrating game ever – I feel like it always ends up being way more than 20 questions, and I never guess it right! The book tag version is much more fun.  Thanks for the tag, Iris, and y’all make sure you go check out Hoard of Books! Question One How many books are too many books in a book series? I think it depends on the series.  I would take about twelve more various Harry Potter books […]

Ten Books I Wish More People Were Talking About

Ten Books I Wish More People Were Talking About

I love to shout about the books I love. You may have noticed that pattern among book bloggers – you may love to do it yourself.  Some books – like The Night Circus or Ready Player One – everyone is talking about.  But then, there are books you think were fantastic, but people just aren’t talking about them as much as you think they deserve. For me, this encompasses most the books on my shelf.  If I own it, I probably love it, and want to talk about it.  How about you?  Here are some books I la-la-love, that I wish got more […]

August Wrap Up

August Wrap Up

Hello everyone!  How did August go for everyone?  Summer is winding away, and autumn is nearly here!  My  August was busy with friends in the beginning and work at the end.  I read some great books, ate some great food, and I am SO SO excited for September because I have a lot of fun stuff planned in September! As I’m writing this, I’ve got Black-ish on in background, eating some amazing bakery chocolate cream pie, hot tea… the porch door is wide open and my Lizzie cat is curled up right next to me.  Can’t ask for much more than that. […]

The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang

The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang

The Poppy War is an Asian-inspired fantasy with an Asian protagonist, and right now in the world of fantasy, these are incredibly rare.  That reason – if no other – is a good one to pick up this novel. Fang Runin is a different sort of protagonist than I’m accustomed to finding in books like these.  She’s driven and smart, but not in a Hermione-esque where learning comes naturally to her. Rin has to work very hard to keep pace with her peers.  Her birth and raising has not disposed her to this sort of life, and so, she must put […]
