My 10 Favorite New Authors of 2018 (& 2018 Debut Author Challenge Review!)

Last year, I participated in That Artsy Reader Girl’s 2018 Debut Authors Challenge.  This is a challenge Jana has been running for a few years now, though you probably know her better from Top Ten Tuesday!  The Debut Author Challenge is intended to encourage readers to reach out and support new and upcoming authors.  I’ve got to be honest, without this challenge, I most likely would have missed out of some of my favorite books of 2018. As a twist on today’s Top Ten Tuesday, I wanted to talk a little about my Top Ten New Authors from 2018 that […]

2018: My Year In Books

2018: My Year In Books

Annual round up time!  I like this time of year because it’s like this amazing gallery of all the different worlds I’ve visited and the people I’ve meant.  Okay, so granted, all these people and places are fictional, but books are still the sort of thing that make me happy, so taking a brief revisit is always fun. As I predicted last year, 2018 was so much better than 2017 in regards to my personal life, travel, reading, everything!  I’m so grateful for this upturn, and I’m sure 2019 will bring whole new slew of joy and surprises.  I started my […]

Happy December, loves. This is it.  This is the end of the year, and fresh with good memories and bad ones – joy and regret.  This is the final push to reach our reading and writing and blogging goals.  I’ll be doing a proper 2018 wrap up tomorrow, but suffice it to say that things went well this year, at least as far as reading goes! I hope everyone has had a marvelous holiday season!  For myself, I am exhausted and excited for the year to be swinging to an end.  The holidays are always delightful, but tiring, don’t you […]

The Queen’s Rising by Rebecca Ross

The Queen’s Rising by Rebecca Ross

In many ways, The Queen’s Rising was a painful book for me to read.  I could see the fantastic ideas just below the surface, like viewing them through a simple gossamer curtain, but they never materialized.  At its very best, The Queen’s Rising is disappointing.  At its worst, it is raw and tedious.  It’s such a shame. Out story starts out with a rushed boarding school montage, where we learned Brienna is trying to become impassionated (a master of an art or skill) but doesn’t really fir any of the passions.  The idea that people have an affinity to or connection with […]

February Wrap Up

February Wrap Up

Posted February 26, 2018 in Checking In // 4 Comments

February is always the fastest month of the year.  Maybe it’s because there’s so much going on, maybe it’s because it’s technically the shortest month… I don’t know!  But here we are again at the end of it! For all you beautiful people reading this, I hope you all had an amazing Valentine’s Day, Lunar New Year, President’s Day – the whole shebang.  And all the holidays I missed.  February is ripe with holidays! My bookishness wasn’t as ambitious this month as January, but I loved all the books I got through.  It was just slow going.  February hits me hard as […]
