10 Series Books That are Just as Good (if not BETTER) Than Book One

The bookish community is always taking about how they need to finish all the series they’ve started, and I am no exception to this rule.  In fact, over the last couple years my audiobook TBR is mostly made up of sequels and series books (to the extent I can borrow them).  That said, I also quit series sometimes.  Sometimes, you just gotta! Still, there are definitely series I’m glad I’ve stuck out.  We talk a lot about the “Book Two Blues” on this blog, but that’s not always the case.  Sometimes the second book in a duology, trilogy, or series […]

12 Books That Kept Me Reading Even When 2020 Was Too Much

12 Books That Kept Me Reading Even When 2020 Was Too Much

I have never faced a reading slump quite like the year 2020. Everyone has their reasons for not meeting personal goals and reading challenges last year.  Early on, there was this expectation that being stuck-at-home was going to mean loads of reading, but somehow, that didn’t pan out.  I’ll tell you what I did a lot of in 2020, and that is video games.  Over 400 hours logged on Animal Crossing and I got Pokemon Sword at the end of the year so that started usurping a bunch of my time as well. And just like that, my favorite month of the year is over.  We’re dipping into winter up here in New England – what’s left of the beautiful leaves have faded to brown, but most the trees are skeleton bare.  The air is chilly and just a few days ago, we had our first snow frosting. And so, here we are.  To quote Game of Thrones… winter is coming. Overall, it was a good month.  I had a lot more interactivity than I’m used to, particular for this year.  We had the opportunity at the beginning of the month to connect with […]

Hello beautiful people, and happy September?  I LOVE this time of year!  Since we didn’t go on any vacations this year, I saved up my precious paid-time-off and put it all into the fall because there’s no time I’d rather sleep in and linger lazily outdoors.  Summer is a little too warm for my comfort – but autumn?  Autumn in New England is one of the most beautiful things. And with the changing leaves and the smell of backyard campfires in the air, I’m doing my absolute best to remain positive.  The loss of Ruth Bader Ginsburg hit me hard […]

Happy Book Birthday, The Silvered Serpents!

Happy Book Birthday, The Silvered Serpents!

I don’t normally do this, but I wanted to leave a little space on the blog today to wish a very happy book birthday to The Silvered Serpents and congratulations to author Roshani Chokshi on her publication day! I was lucky enough to receive a copy of The Silvered Serpents early and by complete coincidence, started reading it just a couple weeks before the pandemic started.  I read my eBooks slowly so I’d been enjoying this work a handful of pages at a time, in the between places.  Looking back, I really couldn’t be more grateful for that ARC.  Not just because […]
