The Art of Writing a Negative Review

The Art of Writing a Negative Review

I have no qualms about writing a negative review.  Even for an ARC. I think this is something a lot of bloggers struggle with.  In the blogging community, your image is everything.  You don’t want to be perceived as a Debbie Downer about books all the time, because who wants to read such negativity day after day.  Trust me, if people want to be bummed out, they can just pop over to the news. Nonetheless, I believe it’s important to have a variety of book quality on your blog.  Frankly speaking, it adds to your credibility.  Nobody, nobody likes every book […]

The 90s Kid Book Tag

The 90s Kid Book Tag

Guys I love book tags.  I may not do them very often, but they’re always so much fun.  I wanted to create my own!  I’ve looked high and low, but I haven’t found a 90s Kid Book Tag yet.  We 90s kids are hugely nostalgic, so this came as a bit of a surprise to me!  I had to make one. Originally, this tag had about 40 items (oops).  I’ve cut it way down to what I thought were the most interesting ones… and if you weren’t a 90s kid – don’t worry!  I’ve tried to explain some of our […]

My Most Disappointing Reads of 2017

My Most Disappointing Reads of 2017

A couple weeks ago, I highlighted my favorite books I read this year.  Every one of them was an excellent, well-written, intriguing read.  Unfortunately, not all books can be perfect and meet all our expectations.  What follows is a list of the books I read this year that didn’t live up to my expectations and why. By no means does this mean you shouldn’t read these books!  Just because I thought a book fell short, doesn’t mean others wouldn’t completely and totally love it.  In fact, at least two books on this list are very popular on Goodreads, so by […]

December Wrap Up and MERRY CHRISTMAS

December Wrap Up and MERRY CHRISTMAS

Merry Christmas my loves! I hope you are all having a lovely day with friends and family if you celebrate.  It’s okay, you can read this post tomorrow.  I’d rather you celebrated! And, of course, if you don’t celebrate Christmas, I hope you’re having a lovely Monday. As you read this, I am at my parents house for Christmas brunch.  Soon enough, we’ll head to my in-laws for Christmas with that half of the family and dinner.  It’s a day off and a day to be with loved ones.  Back to work tomorrow! My books this month have come chiefly […]

The Switch by A.G. Hill & Nathanael Hill

The Switch by A.G. Hill & Nathanael Hill

I had 42 comments on this as I read it because I could not stop pointing out all its failings.  The writing looked like an editor hadn’t even touched it with a 20-foot pole.  The characters were flat as pancakes, the world-building was mostly a scientific, condescending talk-down… just… no? Lets get technical here. The writing. The writing style fluctuates between fragments and run-on sentences.  The author delights in phrases like “But there’s stuff we don’t have an explanation for that will be science someday.” and “It was a perfectly reasonable question, to which I had no answer.” to get […]

October Wrap-Up

October Wrap-Up

Well my dears, it’s here! October has packed her bags and gotten away from me again.  Every year I feel like I’m chasing the autumnal delights of this month, and I just can’t keep up with it!  It’s my favorite time of year, but it’s also one of the busiest times of year, and it just slips away.  I come out at the end panting like it’s been a marathon but the loot was well worth it!  The leaves are off the trees, the air is getting crisp… winter is just around the corner. Well this month was actually WORSE than the […]
