The Characters Who Made “Meh” Books Tolerable

The Characters Who Made “Meh” Books Tolerable

Over the last two years, I’ve read a lot of books, but not all of them have been gold medal winners.  Some have been *so* frustrating, and others the worst kind of predictable.  Love triangles, overflowing with cheese… I could go on. I do acknowledge, though, not all books are purely unenjoyable.  Sometimes, there will be characters that stand out even if I don’t like the story.  Here are some characters of note.      Sydney Sage Bloodlines by Richelle Mead Tess Legend by Marie Lu The Faeries So Silver Bright by Lisa Mantchev Indie Crossed by Ally Condie Letty Hempstock […]

Fight Like a YA Girl Tag

Fight Like a YA Girl Tag

Well this is probably the neatest tag title I’ve seen.  Who doesn’t love a kickass YA girl?  In the last decade, the genre is flooded with really awesome female characters.  I’m okay with this… even if sometimes they’re a little repetitive.  This topic ties in really well with my Top Ten Kickass Female Characters post from a couple weeks ago, so lets continue the discussion! This tag was stolen from Kyera @ Kyera’s Library back in July.  Thanks for sharing it, Kyera – I love it! THE RULES Thank the person who tagged you. Mention the creator Krysti at YA and […]

5 Minor Characters that Steal the Show – #Top5Tuesday

5 Minor Characters that Steal the Show – #Top5Tuesday

While a lot of love in the bookish community goes to MCs and mortal enemies, the minor characters don’t get enough love. These are some of my favorite characters.  They make the books shine, and honestly?  Some of them FLAT OUT steal the show.  These underappreciated, underloved, small character are what this week’s Top 5 Tuesday is all about!  Shanah @ The Bionic Bookworm hosts this super fun weekly feature.  This week, she encouraged everyone to pick ten characters, but I’m going to stick with five, because I’m a REBEL. There are much spoilers here, guys. I’m serious.  If you see a […]

August Wrap Up! // Featuring: Lakes, Cakes, AND DOC BROWN!

Welcome Ladies & Gents, to the August Wrap Up! August has been a busy month!  For me, there’s been vacations and birthdays and a trip to the dentist (BLECH), and a solar eclipse!  I am so so proud of myself because I have posted every day this month!  I know a lot of people are heading back to school within a week, if they haven’t already.  Can you believe summer’s almost over?  SHEESH.  I think that we all have had a crazy month, so let’s get down to it!  EXCITING THINGS ARE AFOOT, MY PHOENIX FRIENDS. No, not that kind […]

Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson

Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson

Neverland is complicated. You have faeries running off to spy on 15-year-old girls, the same girls running off to run around the forest like a wild beast with a pack of boys, drunk pirates trying to kill said boys for no explained reason, and missionaries coming in to convince the tribe to bully their wonderful transgender shaman to deny who he is. This book is marketed as a love story between Peter Pan and Tiger Lily and I can feel the author trying to do that, but honestly? This is just a mess. It’s told in the POV of Tinkerbell, […]
