The Importance of Reading with Children

The Importance of Reading with Children

The day before my best friend’s wedding back in early October, I was asked to come to their house and watch the girls for a couple hours so they both could get some last minute important stuff done.  Of course I agreed – not only was it the day before the wedding, but I adore their girls.  They are the kids I compare all other kids to, in a good way.  Also, it was an easy task.  First of all, the toddler was napping.  Secondly, the nine-year-old was “reading Harry Potter so she probably won’t even look up and say hi.” […]

Halloween Characters I Love

Halloween Characters I Love <3

Happy Halloween, my beautiful monsters! Do you folks have plans today?  I live in the States, and while we love the commercialization of this holiday… I’m too old to go trick-or-treating, and too lame to go to a fabulous grown-up Halloween party where there are cheesy themed drinks like Zombie Cocktails and Poisoned Appletinis.  I have a fab 1950s-esque dress I think I’ll wear to work today, but otherwise my Halloween spirit is zilch.  Which sucks because I actually adore this season… I just, you know, have no time. I’m going to take a wee break from bookish things today and for […]

In my college writing classes, there were a lot of length-related challenges to push us outside our comfort zones.  We’d be challenged to write ten page stories, and one sentence story.  I am extraordinarily bad at writing my own stories in one sentence, but I love reading them. So I was thinking about this week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt looking for fun or unique book titles, and the ones that immediately jumped out to me were the long ones.  The book titles that are stories in themselves are my favorite ones to discover.  They make me imagine stories that are often […]

Meet a Few KICK ASS Ladies in Fantasy

Many moons ago, I wrote a post about my Top Three Strong Female Characters.  This list featured Holly Short, Hermione Granger, and Max.  While all three of them are excellent characters, I’ve been really wanting to create an updated list, because a strong, sassy female character is my weakness.  Do you have a heroine that kicks ass?  I need to know all about her.  Like, now. I have a great big list of Strong Female Characters on Goodreads, and I also have a tag on the blog for it.  Needless to repeat, these girls are the peanut butter to my jelly […]

My Autumn TBR!

My Autumn TBR!

Posted September 19, 2017 in Memes // 24 Comments

I’m Making a Reading Plan. Usually I’m not one to commit to books, since I’m a mood reader, but this week’s Top Ten Tuesday encouraged us all to talk about our autumn TBR, and heck… I can commit to 10 specific books over three months, right?  I mean, five of these I already know I’m going to be reading ASAP, so what’s so difficult about picking another five?  I CAN DO THIS. Thank you to the ladies at The Broke and the Bookish for hosting this weekly meme.  They always have such great prompts and I really enjoy participating! Without […]
