Keeping It Local: A Day in Salem, MA

Hi everyone! Welcome to my first post of October!  In keeping with my tradition here on the Literary Phoenix, I’ve got a month of spooky-adjacent posts for y’all.  The reviews will be… just… reviews… but the posts should all be Halloweenesque! Starting out the month, I wanted to bring the only vaguely travel post I’m going to be able to share this year.  A couple months ago, my husband and I took a socially distanced trip over to Salem, MA.  We live fairly close to Salem and have talked about visiting the city for a couple years, but we’re always off […]

Cancelled Travel Plans & Dealing With Wanderlust While Stuck At Home

Hi everyone! Before I dig too deep into this post, I want to take a moment to acknowledge my privilege in even talking about this.  We are still deep in the midst of a pandemic and there are many pivotal things happening right now.  From social justice to politics to COVID-19, there are a lot of more important things going on in the world.  Believe me, I know. This post exists because, well… I really miss travel. It’s funny – four years ago, this would have been normal.  Vacations were a thing we didn’t have the time or funds for.  In […]

The Kennedy Space Center (Bahamas Cruise 2/4)

The Kennedy Space Center. So much history in this place. This was an interesting trip for my husband and I – Matt loves the science of… anything… and I like the stories behind it that are imprinted into our history as humans.  The Kennedy Space Center provided both, and it was a cool place to go once in your life… if you find yourself in the area. Our tour started with the famous countdown clock from the press pit.  Now retired, this clock stands at the entrance of the Kennedy Space Center with a plaque proclaiming that it is the […]

Meet the Anthem of the Seas! (Bahamas Cruise 1/4)

There are a lot of different cruise ships out there on a lot of different cruise lines. Matt and I are by no means professional cruisers (but, full disclosure, full time cruising is my retirement plan) but we love being on board and have been testing out different ships as more and more cruise lines begin to said out of New York, Boston, and today… Bayonne, New Jersey! Our latest venture to the Bahamas was the first time I had personally cruised with Royal Caribbean.  I’ve done tours and reviews on a few other ships with other lines – the […]
