Olympia & the Temple of Zeus (Greek Islands Cruise 2021)

Olympia & the Temple of Zeus (Greek Islands Cruise 2021)

Even though I am not a sports person, even I was enchanted by the grandeur of Olympia. There are some ruins that just look like, well, broken stuff… and there are some that strike amazement into my very soul and the ruins and stories at Olympia did just that for me.  It was a little bit of the grandeur of some of the things, and certainly the state of the archaeological finds helped. I’ve been looking forward to writing this particular post because I was so awestruck at the site, but I daresay I won’t do it justice. If I […]

The Sacred Island of Delos (Greek Islands Cruise 2021)

The Sacred Island of Delos (Greek Islands Cruise 2021)

When we started looking at activities in Greece, Delos was my number one non-negotiable choice.  I always loved the myths surrounding Artemis and Apollo, and visiting the place where the Greeks believed the twin god and goddess were born was instantly fascinating to me. First of all, the entire island of Delos is an archaeological site. There are no true permanent residents (except the island cats), though there are permanent residences that house the historians, scientists, and archaeologists currently working at the site. 98% of the people we saw on the island were tourists that had been ferried in from […]

Filerimos Monastery & the Medieval City of Rhodes (Greek Islands Cruise 2021)

After a fully exhausting day wandering the streets of Heraklion, we fell asleep quickly and slept until our persistent alarms woke us.  I’m always up first, tormented by the possibility of productivity, so I was the one who got to sweep aside the curtains the morning we arrived in Rhodes. I was greeted by one of the coolest sights I’ve ever seen. Over several cruises we’ve learned that each port has its own style.  Some, like Sao Miguel and Cobh, offer incredible views.  Others, like New York and Miami, are underwhelming.  Rhodes by far is my favorite.  I swear, I […]

Some Things to Expect if You’re Planning to Travel Internationally in 2021

Some Things to Expect if You’re Planning to Travel Internationally in 2021

Travel has changed since March 2020. As soon as we found out that our Greek cruise was a go, we started researching what we would need to do in order to a.) go on the cruise itself; b.) travel safely internationally; and c.) assure we submitted all the proper paperwork.  Things look a bit different travelling between countries since we last went away.  While I would still generally advise my readers to err on the side of caution and stay home (particularly with the spread of variants), there are a few of the things you can expect if you would […]

Why I Keep Planning Vacations (Even Though Travel Is Uncertain)

Why I Keep Planning Vacations (Even Though Travel Is Uncertain)

When I tell my friends or coworkers I have vacation plans for 2021, 85% of the time, they look at me as though I told them I’m a martian.  I can only imagine the thoughts going through their heads, mostly cumulating in, “Doesn’t she know there’s a pandemic on?” Oh yes, loves.  I know. The pandemic is precisely why I keep planning travel.  Well, okay – I would probably be doing this anyway, but I’m talking about it because it’s really important right now to support the things you love and travel is one of those things for me.  In particular, the type of […]
