Book Vs. Movie – The Dark Tower (SPOILERS!)

Book Vs. Movie – The Dark Tower (SPOILERS!)

It is a well-known fact that it’s extraordinarily difficult to watch a film adaptation of a story you love, especially when it’s as intricate as a high fantasy.  When I heard that a movie adaptation was being made of Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, I was so excited.  Beyond excited – I was elated. Of course, the problem was – the more details that were released about the story, the less inclined I was to see it.  These things piled up and up until the very mention of The Dark Tower made me cringe.  Ultimate, I didn’t see it in theaters.  In […]

June Wrap Up

June Wrap Up

June is already gone, and what an unexpected month it has been.  For me, June has been a month that has required patience – at work and at home, and with my reading.  As I write this, though, my house is peacefully quiet and it smells like barbecue pulled pork, so it important to find all the little things are cling to them lovingly. All in all, June has been a good month.  It went by so fast, but doesn’t it seem like they all do, by the time we hit the wrap up?   Y’all know how I keep […]

Wolves of the Calla by Stephen King

Wolves of the Calla by Stephen King

There are two things I dislike about Wolves of the Calla. One: The pacing is insanely slow.  It’s one of the longest books in the Dark Tower series, and yet, it only needs to tell one story.  In fact, it almost feels like filler to pass the time as Susannah develops her little… problem.  That isn’t to say it’s not an interesting story, but it takes an awfully long time to get to the point. Two:  At least 50% of Wolves of the Calla is a retelling and extension of ‘Salem’s Lot.  Why?  When we get to the Calla, we meet Pere Callahan […]

Bookish Worlds I’d Never Want to Live In

Bookish Worlds I’d Never Want to Live In

If you’re like me and you read a lot of fantasy novels, then you know how cruel the world can be.  Most contemporary novels are fluffy or thrillers, but ultimately they are our world and we already live in it, like it or not.  Science fiction and fantasy?  Those are dark places, more often than not.  And while a lot of us would love to go to Hogwarts, I’m sure there are places we can all agree we’d rather not go to. Midworld The Gunslinger, The Drawing of the Three, The Waste Lands, Wizard and Glass, The Wind Through the […]

Long Weekends & Ready Player One

Long Weekends & Ready Player One

Good morning my lovelies, and happy Easter! Whether you’re at Easter Mass, on an egg hunt, or doing positively nothing at all, I hope you have a delightful day! I have had a most amazingly productive book week for the first time in ages, which was a lovely change.  Finished three books this week, all of which have been fairly long-running for me, and all of which I enjoyed.  You should be seeing reviews pop up for The Magicians, Gone With the Wind, and Wizard and Glass throughout the next couple weeks!   Of course, this also means I started new books!  Matt […]

The Things I’d Like to Read This Spring

The Things I’d Like to Read This Spring

Last autumn, I tried to do an Autumn TBR per a Top Ten Tuesday Prompt.  I might have read half of those.  These days, most of my physical books are in my three different TBR jars, so I pick them at random.  THAT SAID, yikes, there are some things I’d really like to get to reading.  February, in particular, was a month reading the things I was supposed to rather than the things I wanted to. So, as the snow melts and seasons change, here’s a few things I’d like to read in the next few months.  No promises! Ready Player One by Ernest […]
