My 10 Favorite New Authors of 2018 (& 2018 Debut Author Challenge Review!)

My 10 Favorite New Authors of 2018 (& 2018 Debut Author Challenge Review!)

Last year, I participated in That Artsy Reader Girl’s 2018 Debut Authors Challenge.  This is a challenge Jana has been running for a few years now, though you probably know her better from Top Ten Tuesday!  The Debut Author Challenge is intended to encourage readers to reach out and support new and upcoming authors.  I’ve got to be honest, without this challenge, I most likely would have missed out of some of my favorite books of 2018. As a twist on today’s Top Ten Tuesday, I wanted to talk a little about my Top Ten New Authors from 2018 that […]

Bookish Worlds I’d Never Want to Live In

Bookish Worlds I’d Never Want to Live In

If you’re like me and you read a lot of fantasy novels, then you know how cruel the world can be.  Most contemporary novels are fluffy or thrillers, but ultimately they are our world and we already live in it, like it or not.  Science fiction and fantasy?  Those are dark places, more often than not.  And while a lot of us would love to go to Hogwarts, I’m sure there are places we can all agree we’d rather not go to. Midworld The Gunslinger, The Drawing of the Three, The Waste Lands, Wizard and Glass, The Wind Through the […]

March Wrap Up

March Wrap Up

My loves, I am exhausted.  February and March are always difficult months for me, with many thanks to the glorious New England weather.  I can only do so much with grey skies and snowstorms, you know?  This month’s wrap up is going to be brief – mostly just to say hi and let you know what’s been going on in my library these days and see how you all are doing! My haul was pretty low key this month, which is fine!  I didn’t go out and buy any of these except Children of Blood and Bone – all pre-orders, ARCs […]

Wonderblood by Julia Whicker

Wonderblood by Julia Whicker

Wonderblood has one of the darkest and most fascinating world building structures I’ve ever seen in a dystopia.  It’s dark and bloody and creepy.  A religion has sprouted over the idea of the space shuttles and that they will come back to Earth and rescue everyone, and there will be a new day dawning, one of Hope and Mercy.  The setting and the Carnivals and the astronomical focus of the government at Cape Canaveral is fascinating. No, scratch that.  It is so freaking dark and amazing. Unfortunately, that is where the amazingness of Wonderblood ends.  The story is told from three […]

October Wrap-Up

October Wrap-Up

Well my dears, it’s here! October has packed her bags and gotten away from me again.  Every year I feel like I’m chasing the autumnal delights of this month, and I just can’t keep up with it!  It’s my favorite time of year, but it’s also one of the busiest times of year, and it just slips away.  I come out at the end panting like it’s been a marathon but the loot was well worth it!  The leaves are off the trees, the air is getting crisp… winter is just around the corner. Well this month was actually WORSE than the […]
