Happy Pride Month to all of you who are: Out as your authentic self. Unable to come out for safety reasons. Not ready to come out. Still questioning your gender and/or sexuality. Transitioning. Not ready to transition. Excited to share your truth with the world. Tired of explaining your sexuality. Out and private about it. Out to some people but not to everyone. Struggling with guardians/friends who don’t support your sexuality. Searching for the right pronouns. Found your pronouns. Everyone else I may have missed! Pride Month is special and important to me. This community is a home in so […]

It’s that annual wrap up time of year again! When I set up the placeholder for this post a year ago and called it “Reading Challenges and Blogging Hurdles” I had no idea how true that would ring.  I know I was thinking about following through on my personal reading challenge as well as Start On Your Shelfathon… but y’all?  2020 has been rife with reading challenges.  And blogging hurdles.  I am plum worn out. Also, feeling grateful because a massive might-as-well-be-a-whole-tree branch missed falling on our house by about six feet.  With a little help from the wind we avoided some serious damage – the thing took down all the saplings in its wake […]

You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson

You Should See Me in a Crown is a perfect YA contemporary book. The book’s so well written and the realism and issues folded together nicely. My critical brain was fully able to step back and just enjoy this book.  And what a great book it was? Liz Lightly is a music nerd, a Black girl, and likes girls.  In the small town of Campbell, none of the things really endear her to running for Prom Queen, especially not in a town where Prom is a Really Big Deal.  When a scholarship for her dream school doesn’t pan out, the […]
